My Mojo got out on Monday (Labor Day) in 15 plus winds. I had a blast with my Daughter for her first time on the Windmill and my second time. Yes the Windmill's tippy, and we found out when I let Janell drive because she was unsure about the pole workings. We got just slightly off kilter and she thought that if she headed up it would straighten us out. Wrong. Lesson one learned the hard way. We took a nice core sample of the bottom of Tampa Bay with the end of the mast and muddied up the last foot and a half of our main. Not to say we didn't need the experience because I'm very sure it's not the last time we turtle. The little bugger is a blast on a reach. I love the way it plains out with a good kick in the sails. I think that with some experience and advice from some of the novices we'll be smoking some of the Portsmouth fleet at DIYC. I hope to see lot's of Windmills in the coming races. Happy Sailing
:: Hola.
::
:: I noticed on the last edition of the Jouster that
:: including me there are 6 new windmillers in Florida. Six
:: plus the regular Ethan, super Dave, Dan, Arthur, Chesa
:: (has Chesa moved down here already?) and some other(s)
:: who may not be accounted for (Colin Browning for one who
:: recently bought a Windmill) totals over ten Windmills.
:: We should all get together and stage a monthly Windmill
:: sail. It can be a fun day get together or it can be a
:: serious race day.
::
:: If it is a fun get together, we can do it on a saturday
:: or a sunday and pick destinations around the area from
:: Lakeland to Boca Ciega or Sarasota and of course
:: including Davis Island YC. If we want to race, Davis
:: Island YC offers sunday races every other sunday
:: throughout the year with a race schedule posted on the
:: web page www.diyc.org Since I love plugging DIYC, on
:: Sunday races we have many dinghy sailors show up, a well
:: marked race course, a nice air conditioned bar, a pool,
:: etc.
::
:: If you are a Florida Windmill sailor and you would like
:: to stage such a get together, just email me your
:: preference and we will figure it out. I race my windmill
:: Lady Lane on every DIYC sunday race so that venue is MY
:: default on a scheduled sunday race but I am open to
:: other days and othe locations.
::
:: Here is the DIYC sunday schedule
::
